TA271-320 is an avalanche thyristor in stud design. It has a repetitive peak off-state and reverse voltage VDRM/VRRM 600-1200 V. Mean on-state current ITAV 320А. The thyristor has an industry-standard ceramic housing making it easy to integrate the device into existing equipment. The maximal junction temperature Tjmax is 140 °C.
A unique feature of avalanche thyristors is that the sharp rise of the reverse current after exceeding a certain threshold (VBR) is caused not by breakthrough at the surface of the silicon chip but avalanche effect in the entire space charge area of p-n junction. The main application of avalanche thyristors is proptection of power circuits from overvoltage. Such thyristors are used in energy converters, power circuits operating at industry standard or increased frequency. The thyristors have a sealed housing isolating the functional part and the semiconductor element from mechanical impacts and environment.
This thyristor has a stud design with a flexible power lead and pressure contacts. Stud thyristors are notable for their ability to be used on moving parts.
